Amenity Forum Sprayer Operator of The Year 2018 – A Day In The Life……

A Day in the Life:

At our Annual Conference on Tuesday 9th October 2018 we announced the three category winners for the 2018 Amenity Sprayer Operator of the Year Awards. Sponsored by ICL and Syngenta, this is the fourth year of running our prestigious awards which aim to reward top sprayer operators across the amenity industry, and to share their best practice to enhance standards for all. The overall winner will be announced at the BIGGA Turf Management Exhibition which takes place in January 2018.

Here we meet each of the three category winners and find out more about what a typical day for them includes…

Landscape & Industrial Using a Knapsack category winner: Ryan Shepherd, Hortech

My day always begins with… Driving to work listening to the radio whilst planning my day ahead.

Typical activities for my day include… Meetings, speaking with colleagues, ordering machinery, training staff and keeping our fleet running.

My favourite part of the day is… Enjoying going home knowing everything has been done for that day.

I can’t get through the day without… Going to the gym after work

Landscape & Industrial Vehicle Mounted Equipment category winner: Keith Gallacher, Complete Weed Control South West and East Scotland

My day always begins with… Trying to get out the house without waking the kids up, which is always hindered by the dog wanting his breakfast!

Typical activities for my day include… Morning meeting with the team, a large strong coffee and then seeing what the day brings. Usually working on tenders, quotes and confirmed orders. I will try as much as I can to get out to site if possible.

My favourite part of the day is… Lunch! Having bought a panini toaster for the office it makes lunch time a very rewarding part of the day!

I can’t get through the day without… My wife phoning me 100 times a day!! 🙂

Sports Turf Using a Knapsack category winner: Andy Baker

My day always begins with… My day always began with a big bowl of cereal and a cup of tea while checking the weather forecast. While driving to work I would be planning the day in my head.

Typical activities for my day include… included cutting and course set-up, meetings and planning of future works. Keeping the members up to speed on anything we are doing around the course.

My favourite part of the day is… first thing in the morning as the sun behind to rise over the course. There are few members around to get in the way and the course looked stunning with the long shadows and the sun shining through the trees

I can’t get through the day without… a nice cup of tea and a walk around the course with my black Labrador, Solly.
