Meet a Member: Vale Engineering

About us:

Vale Engineering (York) Limited; incorporated in year 2000 and headed by James Wilson MD are manufacturers of winter maintenance, ground care equipment and highway weed sprayers.  Within the company there is a training division, one of the trainers Geoff Wilson became an assessor in 1987 for pesticide application and then later a trainer and BASIS qualified adviser.  Training is still part of Vale Engineering as some equipment is hired out and therefore the operator needs the appropriate training.

Our challenges:

Vale Engineering prides themselves on excellent staff, maintaining a family approach to employment.Finding new members of staff is exceedingly difficult and our biggest challenge.

Our expertise:

Within the company, we have a design engineer, 3 agronomists, 2 NSTS examiners, fabricators and mechanics plus 2 trainers and not forgetting the vital admin.  The members of staff have various qualifications and are all practical people, which we consider to be very important.  Our product range is designed in house and CE marked.  Our range of trailed gritters is EC Whole Vehicle Type approved and meets the latest standards.

What turns a normal working day into a great day?

When training and the candidate says they have enjoyed the course, learnt something new and achieved the Certificate of Competence.

Regarding the engineering side when repeat orders are placed, and customers are happy with the service they have been given.

Did you know……?

Geoff’s half cousin was David Bowie?  If you know Geoff, I am sure you will see the similarity!

What it means to be a member of the Amenity Forum:

It is very important for the amenity sector to have a voice both with the public and government.  The Amenity Forum is well placed to promote the sector.  One of the virtues of the Forum is that the members are quite diverse, which gives great strength to the Forum.
