Meet a Member: BASIS

About us:

BASIS is an independent education, training and auditing charity in the agriculture, horticulture, amenity and pest control industries.

The organisation employs 23 staff at its office in Ashbourne, Derbyshire providing administrative and technical support. BASIS is an awarding body recognised by HSE CRD and it subcontracts training to over 80 BASIS Approved Trainers. Exams are accredited by Harper Adams University and each year BASIS examines 3,000 candidates studying one of our 51 accredited courses. We have over 10,000 members on our professional registers and conduct over 700 annual pesticide store audits and manage the Amenity Assured and Lawn Assured standards.

Our challenges:

Our digital transformation project is all absorbing at the moment as we look at ways to improve administrative efficiency and customer benefits and services.  Additionally, the formation of a new membership committee with representation from all the sectors that we support is an exciting and rewarding new initiative.

Our expertise:

BASIS aims to help individuals and companies meet legal, regulatory and best practice standards by offering a range of services including:

  • Education and Training from new entrant level to advisers involved in the sale and supply of pesticides and fertiliser
  • Professional Development via the BASIS Amenity Training Register
  • Pesticide Store Audits
  • Amenity Assured and Lawn Assured auditing

What turns a normal working day into a great day?

Meeting new entrants to our industry just starting out in their careers in the amenity sector turns a normal working day into a great day for me.

Their level of commitment and enthusiasm is often second to none and at times it can be infectious.

Did you know?

2018 is our fortieth year, our ruby anniversary, and we are proud to continue to support the amenity sector in raising professional standards and best practice across the wide and diverse operational activities that are represented under the amenity banner.

What it means to be a member of The Amenity Forum:

The Amenity Forum has gained great traction and recognition over the past few years and it is wonderful to be part of a group that connects individuals and organisations promoting, and delivering, best practice in the amenity sector.
